Jeff Haughton, PA
Jeff Haughton grew up here in Albuquerque, New Mexico. His medical career began in 2001 as an EMT in Albuquerque. He later enlisted in the Army and became a Combat Medic in 2002. Once back in Albuquerque, he worked as a medical assistant and nursing tech in the Presbyterian Emergency Room and Family Practice Clinic. He attended the University of New Mexico, receiving his Bachelor’s of Science in Physician Assistant Studies in 2007. After graduating, his first job was with the Presbyterian Pain and Spine Center where he learned about the complicated nature of pain and how it relates to brain and spine disease. He then became interested in the surgical treatment of brain and spine disorders and joined Dr. Metzger’s Neurosurgical practice in 2008. Jeff is Dr. Metzger’s assistant surgeon in the operating room and helps provide postoperative care for patients in the hospital after surgery. He also assists in clinic, working closely with Dr. Metzger in diagnosing and determining the best treatment for brain and spine disorders. Jeff is also a commissioned officer in Army Reserves, currently serving as a Physician Assistant in the 2291st U.S. Army Hospital. Outside of work, Jeff enjoys running, hiking, skiing, and cycling. He participates in various endurance events including Triathlons, Half Marathons, The Mount Taylor Winter Quadrathlon, The Santa Fe Century, and The Albuquerque Century. He is also a guest lecturer at the UNM Physician Assistant Program, instructing PA students on the diagnosis and treatment of brain and spine disorders.
